Check Google Rankings From a Specific Location

Check your first 3 rankings free. No credit card required. Choose any supported UK or US location and see the top 10 Google Organic or Maps results.

Search results aren’t the same everywhere. A business can rank prominently in Google in one town and be much less visible in the next. This checker lets you choose a UK or US location and check the organic or Maps results returned for that area.

Enter a keyword and location, then choose organic or Maps and mobile or desktop. The tool runs the check using those settings, giving you a location-specific ranking rather than a national view.

Quickly See Who You're Competing With

A ranking check doesn’t just show where you appear. It shows which businesses and websites currently occupy the top positions for that search. Click an Organic result to visit the ranking page, or open a Maps result to take a closer look at the business competing for local visibility.

Search “emergency plumber” in Southampton and you can quickly see which businesses occupy the top Maps positions and which websites rank in Google’s organic results.

About the Ranking Data

Ranking data is requested when you run the check using the keyword, location, device and search type you select. The tool doesn’t return a ranking previously stored by ServiceProSEO for that query, so each check gives you a new point-in-time reading.

The search location is set using the location you enter rather than the location of your own device. This lets you check supported locations across the UK and US regardless of where you’re searching from. Running a check has no effect on your site’s own rankings.

Search results change over time, so treat each result as a point-in-time measurement. If you’re tracking progress, use the same location, device and search type each time so you’re comparing like with like.

Why Might the Result Differ From My Own Google Search?

The position shown by the checker may not always match what you see when searching Google in your own browser. Your browser search can be influenced by your precise location, device, search history and other search context. Results can also change over time.

The checker uses the location, device and search type you select, giving you a consistent way to compare rankings between different locations without relying on searches from your own device.

For meaningful comparisons, keep the keyword, device and search type the same and change only the location you’re testing.

Organic vs Google Maps Rankings

Organic results are the standard list of websites Google shows for a search. Maps results are the local pack, the group of businesses shown with a map and contact details, usually tied to a Google Business Profile.

These two are ranked separately. A business can rank prominently in Maps while its website ranks much lower in the organic results, or the other way round. Maps visibility is particularly useful to monitor when customers find you through local business results, while organic rankings show how your website performs in the standard search results.

Check both if you’re not sure which one drives your enquiries.

Why Google Rankings Change by Location

Google uses the searcher’s location as one of the signals it weighs when building results, particularly for searches with local intent. For these searches, proximity can contribute to differences in the businesses Google shows from one location to another.

This is why checking your own ranking from your own device rarely gives the full picture. Your location is fixed. Your customers are not.

Run the same keyword from two or three different towns in your service area and compare what comes back. The differences tell you where your visibility is strong and where it needs work.

Checking Rankings Across Your Service Area

If you work across multiple towns, check each one separately rather than relying on a single result. A plumber covering four towns might rank first in one and not appear at all in another.

Testing each location separately shows where visibility drops across your service area. Once you know which towns are weak, you can decide where to focus, whether that’s more localised content, listings work or Google Business Profile updates.

Local Rank Checker FAQs

Does this checker use my current location?
No. The search location is set using the location you enter, not the location of your device.
Which countries are supported?

UK and US locations are currently supported.

Will checking my ranking affect my actual position in Google?

No. Running a check has no effect on your site’s rankings.

What does the Maps result actually check?
It checks your position in the local pack, the map-based listings Google shows for local searches, not your organic website ranking.
Can I check the same keyword from more than one location?
Yes. Run the check again with a different location each time to build up a picture across your service area.
